OpenClaw is a self-hosted agent workbench where nothing is hidden. The persona, memory and skills are Markdown files you can read and edit, and the chat UI streams tokens, tool calls, retrieval hits and raw messages as they arrive. The backend is FastAPI with LangChain create_agent and LangGraph over SSE; the front end is Next.js.

One agent is assembled from seven tools — a sandboxed terminal, a Python REPL, URL fetch, a file reader, knowledge-base search, browser automation and web search. Skills live as `skills/<name>/SKILL.md`: a scanner builds a snapshot that goes into the system prompt, and the agent has to read the skill file before it may use it. Memory follows the same idea — SOUL.md, IDENTITY.md, USER.md, AGENTS.md and MEMORY.md are fed in order, and RAG mode retrieves memory chunks per question instead of injecting the file whole.

Sessions persist as JSON with automatic titles, token counting and history compression into a summary, and canvas HTML emitted by the agent previews in a sandboxed panel. It is deliberately single-user: CORS is open and there is no authentication, so it is built to run on your own machine.

How is access delivered?

After checkout you are invited to the GitHub organisation that hosts the repositories. Accept the invitation and the project appears in your account.

Is this a subscription?

No. A single project and all-access are both one-time purchases. There are no seats, renewals or trials.

What happens when a project is updated?

Updates land in the same private repository you already have access to. Pull them whenever it suits you.
